Hi. You’re reading this because you’ve discovered our blog, and a possible platform to share your work! Either that or we’ve been bombarding you on Twitter and Facebook. However you found us, we’re glad you did!
As our blog grows and we develop relationships with authors, we have put together a brief outline of what you can expect from us when considering Page One as a space for advertising your work.
Page One reviews all genres. We do not discriminate, we will happily read everything from historical to XXX erotica – to us, it makes no difference. We like to keep our reviews varied so there’s something for everyone. So if you’re a writer, we want to hear from you, no matter what your chosen genre is.
However, we do operate on an honesty policy. If you’re after an easy, gushy 5* review then we probably aren’t suited to you. We’ll always give you honest feedback, and aim to be constructive. We want to help authors, not tear them down. The advice and feedback we offer is as avid readers, and English MA graduates with some editing experience.
As for the actual review, Page One uses a combination of more traditional star ratings, and a range of symbols for a quick visual breakdown that you will find below.
We’re always looking to grow our symbols so if you think of a new one that you think should be included, then let us know.
* This was a hard and/or boring read. We wouldn’t recommend it and most likely would avoid the author in the future.
** The idea is there and there are parts we like, but needs tightening up and some revising before it becomes a good read in our opinion.
*** It was a good read, kept me entertained and/or amused. If we saw the next book or another book by the same author we would probably buy it.
**** Really good read, massively enjoyed and would definitely read again. Sequels come this way!
***** This is a masterpiece. Absolutely amazing! We are now a different people after reading it. Pre-ordered the next one 12 months before release and eagerly counting down the weeks.
We will always try to contact our authors with a copy of the review before it goes live. That way you will be able to see what we’re going to say, and decide whether you want it on Goodreads, Amazon or any other platform of your choosing. If you don’t agree with, or like our review, we will only post it on Page One. You ultimately have control over where it can be read and viewed.
We want to work with writers, because we appreciate and understand how difficult the publishing industry can be as aspiring writers ourselves. Don’t hesitate to ask us any questions about our review. We’re also happy to help in any way we can, interviews, cover reveals, release boosts etc.
We hope this gives you a better insight into how Page One’s review system works. So if you’re a writer, and interested in honest, and helpful feedback then feel free to contact us. You can tweet us @pageonebooksAH, Facebook at facebook.com/pageonebooksAH or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have a specific date you want your review posted by (a release blitz or set publishing date maybe) please let us know in your message, between the two of us, we can usually accommodate it.
We look forward to hearing from you.
