This book is about high school student Lake and a boy she both fears and wants, Keiran. Lake has been bullied by Keiran all her life, ever since he pushed her from the monkey bars as children. I’m a little on the fence with this book, it is dark and twisted but also sexy as hell so it’s not for the faint hearted. Keiran is horrible to Lake, and sometimes it’s too horrible for my personal tastes, but yet I couldn’t put the book down. There are several secrets and misunderstandings which keep the story going and it does end in a cliff-hanger of sorts.
Keiran is twisted, he’s had a warped upbringing and as a result he’s done horrific things. He’s not a prince charming; he’s not even nice so if that’s what you’re after you’re in the wrong place. He doesn’t give much away for most of the book, so we have no idea why he picks on her and tries to break her repeatedly.
Parts of the story are unbelievable (where the heck are all the responsible adults?!) and far stretched, but the chemistry is undeniable. The heat literally sizzles off the pages. I think if you like dark reads then this is good read, but if you’re squeamish then I’d probably avoid it.
When Cammie Connors saved the mother of Christiano Russo, the son and heir to one of the most dangerous crime families in Australia, her life changed. At first Christiano’s world excited her, but now she’s trapped in her worst nightmare. Yet to the outside world she appears to be Russo’s princess, and as tensions run high between the two warring families, the Morettis order a hit on Cammie. Stefan Valentino is the name all men fear, but when his calling card, a single white rose, is left for Cammie, she feels a strange sense of calm. Eventually he will kill her, but when? Until that time, Cammie finds herself enjoying the chase…
Beautiful Assassin has such an interesting premise, and I loved the tension that this builds in the very beginning of the novel, but I kind of wish that Madi had made more of this while delving further into the Russo/Moretti family history. For me, the initial game between Cammie and Stefan made this mafia romance that little bit different, and I just wanted that bit more.
Even so, there was a lot to like about Beautiful Assassin. It had romance, some action and was well-written. Overall, a good read. I’m curious to see if there’s a sequel.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review.

Soon, they were both involved in the game, throwing their whole bodies into turns, elbowing each other on accident, then on purpose, laughing and dueling for position. Since he was bigger and heavier, he won more often than not, but Elena knew how to use her sharp little elbows to her advantage, probably the result of growing up with a younger brother. He didn’t have a sister, but he had friends who did, and some of their older sisters were just as rough as he was on his little brother. Clearly, Elena fell into that category of older sister.
After one elbow contest where Elena was losing, both with her elbow, and her narrow lead on screen, she hopped up and sat down on his lap, knocking the controller out of his hands, making his character veer off course and crash. She braced her feet on the coffee table, pushing back to smash him as far into the couch as she could, pushing the coffee table away as she did so.
Wrapping his arms around her, he caught her before she could fall off his lap, trapping her against his chest, pulling her back, and rolling sideways so he pinned her on the couch. She laughed, squirming under him, and tossed aside the controller, blowing out a breath to try to dislodge the ends of her ponytail caught in her mouth.
She slapped his tricep lightly. “Move your arm! I can’t believe you made me crash!”
He laughed, moving his arm, but brushing the hair off her face before she could. Her laughter died, and she stilled under him, as though she suddenly realized how she was laying, pinned under him.
His breath caught at the look on her face, equal parts memory and desire as her eyes flitted over his features and settled on his lips. “You made me crash first.”
Her eyes went back to his, and her smile was dazzling, finally reaching her eyes and driving out the perpetual sadness. “I was just trying to win.”
Now his gaze settled on her lips, lush and red, still smiling, though less widely now. He remembered the taste of those lips. Had been wanting to taste them again ever since.
Slowly, he lowered his head to hers, giving her plenty of time to turn away if she wanted. But she didn’t. Instead, she closed the distance, fastening her mouth to his, her tongue plunging into his mouth.

I am a huge fan of Jade West, she is brilliant at writing steamy filth but still manages to interweave complex and brilliant relationships. She is my one-click buy author and she’s also incredibly nice and just a tad nutty in person. Call Me Daddy is no different from her other works in terms of quality and I really enjoyed it.
Laine is having a crap birthday, which is not surprising considering she has a mother who barely remembers she exists and a best friend who always drops her for the D. But this birthday is especially crap, and Laine is trying to find her way home in the pouring rain, with no keys when she’s almost assaulted by a stranger, but Nick comes to her rescue. He takes her in, he looks after her and for the first time she feels safe.
Laine is conflicted, he treats her like a daughter and she likes that, but she also wants something more. This taboo faux-father/daughter relationship is smutty, sexy and very addictive. It’s something which is so very wrong but also incredibly right.
I love how West gives Nick this heart-breaking backstory; she adds a depth to him that I love. He is a natural nurturer; he yearns to make up for what he feels are his failings in a previous relationship. After trying to find a balance in their relationship, there was a punishment scene which wasn’t really my thing but it was necessary to the development of them as a couple, Laine and Nick finally find something with each other that they can’t get anywhere else.
If you’ve previously read Jade West’s work and love her then you won’t be disappointed in this. If you love taboo books, with vivid sex scenes and brilliant relationships then give Call Me Daddy a go!
This is a MC romance from Laura Morgan which is a slow burning, sexy, dark and complicated read. Dahlia Proctor is the youngest daughter of the Black Knights Motorbike Club President and after the death of her older sister, her life is flipped upside down. She’s expected to take her sister’s place in more ways than one, but this steamy read continually unfolds and secrets are revealed left, right and centre.
I call this a slow burner because I did struggle to get into it a little because I didn’t like how naive and pathetic Dahlia was. She is very stereotypical in that she’s spoilt, out of the loop and almost completely blind to what her brothers and father do. That said, I really enjoyed her character development and as the story progressed she found her place in the MC club and her voice.
I liked that you never knew who to trust, we had Dahlia’s view of her father which clashed with her sisters opinions and we have his behaviour to go on but that’s only half the story. At some points I hated him, and others I could see that he really cared about his daughter. There are so many shadows surrounding this MC club, and dark triggers but once the story got going it was addictive and I was trying to work out where the story was headed.
I would recommend this book if you’re after something sexy and unique. Laura Morgan excels at writing dark and complex stories and this one is no different. It’s more than just a motorcycle romance, it’s not straightforward and the ending will leave you hoping that Morgan has another book planned!

You think you know pain?
I’ve lived in it for years, pulled so far down into the darkness that it’s all I see. There was no telling where I ended and the darkness began.
