Excerpt

“Lance.” His name came out a gasp, and she felt him smile against her skin, but he didn’t let up. Instead, his hands moved to the button of her jeans, which he undid before she registered what he was doing. He tugged her pants down along with her panties, his hands now going to her ass, his fingers reaching between her thighs, teasing and stroking, but not where she wanted. She tried to widen her stance, but her jeans around her knees wouldn’t let her, and she whimpered her distress.

The low chuckle that came from Lance’s throat told her he knew exactly what he was doing. But he didn’t torture her for much longer. Wrapping his arms around her, he lay back, taking her with him onto the bed, rolling them so he was propped over her, kissing her mouth again, his hands caressing every inch of naked skin he could reach.

Abby kicked off her jeans, spreading her legs for him, sighing in relief when he rubbed her there at last, dipping inside her and spreading her wetness around her clit in lazy circles. Sometimes things started out slow and languid, but by the time they got naked, it turned into fierce, driving hunger. Not tonight. This was about connection and love, reassurance that they were still okay in spite of all the outside forces currently conspiring against them. One shining moment that Abby knew she would hold inside her to keep her grounded when things with her family got overwhelming. And they would. Soon.

Shelter from the Storm – J.D. Brick

pageonebooks.wordpress.com-40.jpg

Picking up right where Tangled Up In Blue left off, Shelter from the Storm sees Blue called to account for his past actions. But can Blue and Keegan’s relationship survive the consequences of this storm?

I liked the way Brick built up the tension in Shelter from the Storm. It gave the sequel a better pace, driving the plot forward, and this time I found I really wanted to know how Blue and Keegan’s story ended. I’m also glad that Keegan got a little feistier, I just felt this was so much more fitting for her character’s development. It was more her, or at least how I imagined her to be.

However, I did feel certain strands of the story were a little unnecessary like the whole Hunter thing. His character didn’t really need to be anything other than an asshole and it   still would have worked.

But having said that, I definitely preferred Shelter from the Storm! Another enjoyable read!

I RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. THIS IN NO WAY AFFECTED MY OPINION OF THE BOOK, OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW.

Tangled Up In Blue – J.D. Brick

paegonebooks-wordpress-com

Keegan Crenshaw is a straight-A student from a powerful Oklahoma family and has a lot to prove as the youngest editor of her college newspaper, but someone’s out to get her. Blue is a troubled soldier with a dark secret and he can barely control the feelings raging inside him. When Keegan moves into his house to get away, the instant connection they feel is about to make their lives even more complicated…

Tangled Up In Blue combines elements from different Romance genres, mainly military and contemporary, with an added mystery/thriller twist, told from alternating perspectives to keep things interesting. There wasn’t anything particularly new about the storyline but I am curious to see where Brick takes it because there is, dun dun duuhhhhh… a cliffhanger! I’m hoping Keegan is a little stronger in the sequel, and less reliant on Blue. Considering her badass blog and her sheer determination as an editor, I just felt she could be her own hero, but we shall see. So stayed tuned for part two of this review, Shelter From the Storm, coming tomorrow!

Overall Tangled Up In Blue was an enjoyable read, I just didn’t really find myself pushing to finish it.

Savage Saviour by Charleigh Rose

pageonebooks.wordpress.com-39.jpg

In the third book from Charleigh Rose, we’re sticking with the Savage family, their mob related issues and their lovable but crazy women. There’s the typical alpha male hotness, steamy sex scenes and great dialogue that we’ve come to expect from the dynamic duo.

I’m going to say something blasphemous here, but Savage Saviour is probably my least favourite Charleigh Rose book so far. This is a great addition to the other two books, but the first book is my absolute favourite. The storyline in this one was fast paced and pulled you in. I wanted it to slow down in some parts and last longer, which is a good thing! It was over too fast for my greedy liking.

I like Carter, I really do but I don’t love him the same way I do Graham. I’m a sucker for an assertive charmer, and Carter is just a little too quiet for my tastes. Quinn on the other hand is my favourite female lead, she’s feisty, all smiles and kisses while struggling inside. Her back story, like Carter’s, is dark but I think it added something to their sizzling chemistry. I liked the shy stalker element of their romance, a little bit of voyeurism always seems to add that extra sexual tension and Charleigh Rose knows how to work it.

Charleigh Rose is quickly becoming synonymous with sexy, filthy instalove with a dark, taboo storyline and that works for me. I will always look forward to seeing their name on my kindle because I know I’m getting exactly what it says on the tin and they do not disappoint.

Vicious by L.J.Shen

Where the heck do I start with this – shall we start with how much I FLOVE L.J.Shen and all of her books. This woman is seriously fantastic, always giving to her Sassy Sparrows and writing great, steamy, dark romances that make you blush. We already knew Shen was talented, but she seems to do something that other writers struggle with after the initial success, and that is stay strong. Vicious is a testament to how her writing keeps going from strength to strength and getting better each time.

Vicious is slightly reminiscent of Penelope Douglas’ Punk 57 and Corrupt, which is a good thing because Douglas is another author we love here at Page One Books. It has steamy, sexy chemisty, some teenage angst and a hot, hot, hot alpha male character. I’ve  marked this as a quick read because I couldn’t put it down – seriously, I was late going shopping with my family because I stayed to finish the last 20%.

It’s told from a dual point perspective and switches between the present and the past to give more depth to the characters history. ‘Vicious’ whose real name is Baron Spencer, is one of the Four Hot Holes, a group of good looking boys who rule their school and the town they live in. He’s cold, cruel. arrogant, hot as hell (aren’t they always the best) and completely out of bounds for Emilia.  Not that she is impressed by his wealth or status anyway – she sees straight through him. She knows that he’s dangerous.

But Vic likes the challenge, he can’t get the goody-two shoes Emilia out of his head and when one of his best friends shows interest in her, Vicious decides to intervene. He makes her life a misery in every way he can.

In the present Vic is a successful lawyer, still ruthless and cold with a revenge plan in his back pocket that’s been stewing for years. Emilia is broke, waitressing to help buy medicine for her sister and struggling to cover the rent. She can’t believe her eyes when Vic turns up at her bar and just like that all the intermingled feelings of hate, lust and love come rolling back.

When Vicious offers her a job she can’t refuse, Emilia knows she’s already lost. But this spoilt rich boy is more complicated than she realised and there are secrets that are about to resurface which change what we know about the creator of DEFY.

You need to read this now. Not just for the banter, the sexy sizzling moments or the insanely hot Vicious but because it’s toe curlingly satisfying and deserves to be read by anyone and everyone who loves Dark Romance.
