I’ll just have to be careful. I have things there that I want no one to see. The real reason I’m doing this.

A corrupt politician, a highly decorated former soldier and counter terrorist agent looking for revenge and the woman who got caught up in it all. Desire & Deliverance is an action packed revenge plot with a romance twist. I think this is only the second novel I have read with a secret agent, prepared for anything kind of vibe, the first being Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Redemption. It’s just not something I immediately go for but I found once I’d started, I just couldn’t stop. This owes a lot to the pacing of the plot, it moves quickly as the action builds from kidnapping, daring rescues and dramatic shootouts. All told to us through the eyes of the leading man himself, Dean McKenzie, who was given the right level of emotional back story that you can forgive him for some of his pretty bad, and I mean criminal, decisions.

I know what you’re thinking why didn’t I give Desire & Deliverance a higher rating then? While I did really enjoy this read, some things stuck out for me personally. Some words were used a little repetitively (particularly “evil”) and while I see what the author was trying to do, I didn’t feel the epilogue (Twelve Months Later) was really necessary. The final chapter could have easily stood alone. I also felt that Kelly could have had a stronger presence within the narrative given her history and what she was willing to fight for. Having said that it was a fun read, something you can’t help but like. Very Mission Impossible, in a good way!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review.
