Interview with Scarlet Le Clair

How does it feel to have your debut novel published?

Exciting, nerve racking, back to exciting.

Describe Torn in three words.

Hot, Sexy and Delicious

How do you find the writing process? Which bit did you struggle with the most and why?

I really enjoyed writing the book, but hated editing  it, having to read and re read over and over.

How do you find the time to write?

With two young children it is hard, I either try to do a little when they are at school or after they go to bed at night. I am very attached to the word app on my phone.

Do you ever get writer’s block? How do you deal with it?

Yeah about half way into Torn, I got stuck, the characters stopped talking to me. I left it alone for a few days and then returned to it refreshed and ready to start again.

I know I already mentioned it during my review of Torn, but which brother are you rooting for and why?

Whilst I love both my boys, I’m team Blake all the way. He’s such a sweet, caring, soft, insecure guy, who wouldn’t love him, right?

If Torn was to be made into a film, who would you chose to play Sam, Blake and Luke?

Lily Collins as Sam, There was a picture on Facebook of Actor Nick Bateman and his friend that inspired the descriptions of Luke and Blake.

What book are you currently reading?

Wolves love Red by C C Genovese

What advice, if any, would you give your younger self?

Don’t give up, fight for your dreams.

Any advice for people looking to write erotica?

Write what turns you on.

What was your experience with publishing? Was it difficult to get Siren to publish you? Did you consider self-publishing?

Torn had been sat on my laptop for weeks. I had looked a little into self publishing but it seemed like a long and costly process and so I looked at publishing houses. Siren seemed like a good choice, I sent Torn to them and they replied quite quickly. From there it was simple, Siren were there to help every step of the way.

How did you decide upon the cover of Torn? How much input did you have?

The publishers actually have control over this although the cover was sent to me for approval. I was asked to send pictures of who I imagined my characters to look like, and I think they did a good job with my cover.

Erotica is a genre that is often looked down on, what made you want to write erotica fiction?

Before writing this book, I had read one other erotica book, it wasn’t a genre I ever read. I had an idea for a romance book and the steamy stuff took over (I think it was a Luke scene). People don’t realize the work, the emotion that goes into writing an erotica book, they see it as porn but it is much more. There is a background a story, the characters have depth (well some of them anyway).

What have you got planned next?

I have completed Book two, and it just needs a little editing before I send it off to the publishers and have started book three which will be from Luke’s point of view.
